General Notes: Although the 1851 Census record gives his place of birth as Harlesden, Middlesex, ‎(where his paternal grandather James Denew had land between 1807 and 1843)‎, his baptismal record notes his parents' address as Charles Street, Grosvenor Square.

The above is confirmed by the London Gazette of 29 February 1856, which notes:

Probationary Veterinary Surgeons to be Veterinary Surgeons; viz:
John Bolton Hall. Dated 26 February 1856
He is also cited in the New Army List for years between 1856 and 1870.
